Lavrov criticizes West for refusing to help rebuild Syria, promote refugees' return (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 28 (Interfax) - The West's refusal to help rebuild Syria and bring refugees home is counterproductive, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"At this stage, the West is refusing to help Syrians restore normal living conditions across the country, which would enable a calm and confident return of refugees. I think that this refusal is counterproductive and contravenes norms of international law and human rights," Lavrov said after talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman as-Safadi.

"We want refugees to return in strict compliance with norms of international humanitarian law, including security, proprietary rights, and decent conditions in places of their return," Lavrov said.

Russia "has already helped the Syrian government create normal living conditions, including water and power supply and conditions for education of children," he said.
