Russia's new howitzer Koalitsiya-SV has firing range of up to 80 km

MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's new self-propelled artillery system Koalitsiya-SV confirmed its capability to fire over long distances during trials, an informed source told Interfax.

"It can engage targets at a range of up to 80 kilometers," the source said.

Earlier media reports put the new system's maximum firing range at 70 kilometers.

Russian Ground Forces Commander Col. Gen. Oleg Salyukov said on December 18 that the development of Russia's new self-propelled barrage-fire howitzer Koalitsiya-SV was in its final stages.

"The development of the Koalitsiya-SV new joint-force artillery system intended for missile and artillery forces is now in its final stages. It boasts an innovative barrage-fire capability, which allows several projectiles fired with the same weapon at different angles to simultaneously hit the target, thus guaranteeing a massive fire attack," Salyukov said.

The Koalitsiya-SV can be used in operations against command points, communications centers, artillery and mortar batteries, armored hardware, including tanks, anti-tank weapons, air defense and missile defense systems, and also enemy personnel.

Ten Koalitsiya-SV howitzers have been put on a trial run in the First Tank Army, stationed in the Moscow region.
