Foreign ministers to meet in Samarkand on Jan 12-13 in India-Central Asia format involving Afghanistan

TASHKENT. Jan 9 (Interfax) - The first meeting of foreign ministers as part of the India-Central Asia dialogue format involving Afghanistan will take place in Samarkand on January 12-13, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The meeting will be attended by Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chinzig Aidarbekov, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, and Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, as well as Kazakh First Deputy Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani.

"The participants will discuss promising areas of cooperation in connection with promoting the growth of mutual trade, developing transport and logistics, attracting investment, innovations, and technologies to key industries, energy, information technology, medicine, pharmaceutics, and agriculture, as well as interaction in culture, science, education, and tourism," the press service said.

A joint statement will be adopted at the end of the meeting.
