Baltiysk Naval Base gets new commander

MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Rear Adm. Alexander Peshkov has been appointed a new commander of the Baltiysk Naval Base, the press service for the Baltic Fleet told Interfax.

"Before being appointed to the new position, Alexander Peshkov was deputy commander of the combined-arms forces of the Northern Fleet. Rear Adm. Alexander Shcherbitsky, the previous commander of the Baltiysk Naval Base, was appointed the head of the Naval Institute of the Naval Training Center of the Naval Academy in St. Petersburg," the press service said.

Fleet Commander Adm. Alexander Nosatov has introduced Peshkov to officers at the fleet's headquarters, it said.

Peshkov was previously the head of the headquarters and the deputy commander of the Northern Fleet's missile ships division. He was appointed deputy commander of the flotilla of the combined-arms forces of the Northern Fleet in 2012.

The Baltiysk Naval Base is located in Baltiysk in the Kaliningrad region.
