Moscow, Tehran reaffirm adherence to Syria's integrity in context of U.S.' plans to withdraw troops

MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Russian and Iranian representatives discussed the situation in Syria in light of the U.S.' plans to withdraw their troops from that country and reaffirmed their commitment to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity at the consultations in Moscow on Thursday.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Settlement Alexander Lavrentyev took part in the consultations. The Iranian delegation was led by the Foreign Minister's Special Assistant for Political Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari.

"The interlocutors extensively discussed the current situation in Syria in the context of the U.S.' decision planning the withdrawal of American troops from Syria. In this respect, they reaffirmed their firm adherence to Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
