MOSCOW. Jan 15 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov has called an opinion expressed in the United States that there could have been some collusion between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump a "conspiracy theory."
"It is a conspiracy theory, which has nothing to do with reality. America has ended up in a situation that is unique for this country: there is discord there both within society and within the government, and this has caused these complex conditions in which Trump has to work," Peskov said in an interview with the Argumenty I Fakty weekly.
Peskov disagreed that U.S. sanctions imposed on Russia mean playing some "jackstraws game."
"It is not a jackstraws game. It is very serious. Here, for instance, they are threatening to impose restrictions on us as regards the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. It is an over attempt to ensure a competitive advantage for American liquefied gas, which costs more than Russian [gas], and thus make the Europeans buy only this [U.S. liquefied] gas," he said, giving an example of sanctions pressure on Russia.
