MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - U.S. intelligence agencies are preparing an information attack with a view to accusing Russia of helping ISIL (banned in Russia) in Afghanistan, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Recently, we have had information about the U.S. intelligence agencies preparing a series of fake news reports in the media in Afghanistan and several Western countries to discredit Russia's policy on Afghanistan. It is planned to accuse our country of assisting ISIL, including in redeploying militants of the organization to Afghanistan from Syria and Iraq," the ministry said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.
The goal of such actions is "to divert the attention of the international public from failures in the United States' Afghan campaign, which has lasted more than 17 years," the ministry said.
