Unit of Pacific Fleet ships returning to Vladivostok after 3-month deployment

VLADIVOSTOK. Jan 17 (Interfax) - A unit of the Russian Pacific Fleet's combat ships is due to return to Vladivostok at the end of this week following a long-distance deployment of over three months.

"A welcome ceremony for the ships will be held in Vladivostok on January 19," the Pacific Fleet's press service said on Thursday.

The unit, which consists of the Varyag missile cruiser, the Admiral Panteleyev large anti-submarine ship, and the Boris Butoma large sea-going tanker and is under the command of the chief of staff of the Pacific Fleet's submarine forces, Rear Admiral Eduard Mikhailov, sailed out on October 1, 2018.

In the past three-and-a-half months, the ships have called at the Port of Hakodate in Japan, the Port of Jeju in South Korea, the Port of Qingdao in China, the Port of Tanjung Priok in Indonesia, the Port of Muara in Brunei, the Port of Changi in Singapore, the Visakhapatnam Port in India, the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka, and the Port of Manila in the Philippines.

The main goal of the mission was to demonstrate the Russian Navy's St. Andrew's flag and promote naval cooperation with countries of the Asia-Pacific Region.
