Moldovan president tells OSCE chairperson-in-office about Transdniestria peace process

CHISINAU. Jan 18 (Interfax) - Moldovan President Igor Dodon has discussed the Transdniestrian settlement process with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak.

"I drew the attention of the OSCE chairperson-in-office to the substantial progress made in recent years through the program for building confidence between the banks of the Dniester River," Dodon wrote on Facebook on Friday.

It was confirmed at a recent meeting with the Transdniestrian leadership that no obstacles would be created for Moldovan citizens residing in Transdniestria who might want to take part in the Moldovan parliamentary elections, Dodon wrote.

"We also noted the generally favorable atmosphere, which enables further confidence-building measures and the resumption of political consultations on the Transdniestrian settlement process in the 5+2 format," Dodon wrote.

He confirmed his readiness to build close relations with Lajcak and the OSCE delegation to Moldova.

Lajcak is paying his first visit to Moldova in his capacity of the OSCE chairperson-in-office. He has held talks with the Moldovan administration and will meet with the Transdniestrian leadership on Friday afternoon.
