Lawyers for Ukrainian sailors appeal their arrest

MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax) - The defense lawyers for the 24 Ukrainian sailors detained following the Kerch Strait incident have contested the decisions prolonging their arrests until April 24.

""The decisions of Moscow's Lefortovsky District Court prolonging the arrests of all 24 Ukrainian sailors, prisoners of war, have been appealed in full by attorneys from our team," lawyer Nikolai Polozov, a lawyer for Denys Hrytsenko, the sailors' captain, told Interfax.

All appeals were filed on time, and some of them were sent by mail from Crimea, he said. The appeal will probably be heard by the Moscow City Court in February, the lawyer said.

The Lefortovsky District Court extended the arrests at the request of prosecutors on January 15-16.
