Reports that 2nd Su-34 pilot was found are inaccurate - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The navigator of one of the two Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers that collided over the Sea of Japan during an exercise on Friday has been rescued and is in fair condition, but the reports that both crewmembers were found and saved have proven inaccurate, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The previous reports that the other pilot was located and rescued have, unfortunately, not been confirmed," it said.

Rescue teams have received a signal from an emergency buoy in the area where the crewmembers ejected following the incident. "A search-and-rescue operation is underway," the ministry said.
