Russian space industry is ready to build super heavy-lift rocket - Rogozin

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian space industry is ready to design and produce a super heavy-lift launch vehicle, Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said.

"The Central Research Institute of Machine Building [TsNIIMash], which is Roscosmos's leading scientific center, has confirmed that its design and production branches are ready to implement a project to create a carrier rocket of a super-heavy class," Rogozin said on Twitter on Saturday.

The work is being done in line with the president's decree on the creation of super heavy-lift launch vehicle. The implementation of the project required amending Russia's state space program for 2013-2020, approving a detailed schedule of its implementation in 2018-2020 and amending Russia's federal space program for 2016-2025.

Roscosmos earlier approved a draft federal target program to create super heavy-lift launch vehicle. It is expected that final sketches of the launch vehicle, a technical and feasibility and the federal target program will be reported to the Russian leadership in 2019.
