Drill involving Bal, Bastion systems carried out during U.S. destroyer's Black Sea visit

MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian military has conducted an exercise involving the deployment of Bal and Bastion coastal anti-ship missile systems at firing ranges in Crimea and on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, the Black Sea Fleet's press service said on Monday.

"The event involves over 30 pieces of hardware and some 100 troops," it said.

"Bastion and Bal crews carried out drills in accordance with the fleet's combat training plan. Firing ranges on the Crimean Peninsula and on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus were used for the drills," the report said.

The U.S. destroyer Donald Cook, which is carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles, is currently in the Black Sea.
