MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - The case of Paul Whelan, a citizen of the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada suspected of espionage, does not have a political subtext, according to Whelan's lawyer Vladimir Zherebenkov.
"There is absolutely nothing in this case to indicate a political motivation. There is no politics here. This is an ordinary case," Zherebenkov said after the Tuesday hearing of the Moscow City Court.
He said that the investigation was professional and did not rule out that the case might be closed after all the evidence is collected and analyzed.
