MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Israel has tested its missile defense system over the Mediterranean, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
"Radio-electronic systems of the Russian Aerospace Forces registered the launch of a target missile over the Mediterranean at 7:35 a.m. today," the ministry said.
"Specialists from the Russian National Defense Control Center classified the target as a target missile for testing the Israeli Air Force's missile defense system," it said.
The target missile's trajectory went from the central part of the Mediterranean toward the eastern coast, it said.
Israeli media had reported earlier in the day that the Israeli military, working with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, had tested the Arrow 3 missile defense system on Tuesday.
After the target missile was detected, an interceptor missile launched from a military base in central Israel intercepted it.
The goal was to test adjustments made to the Arrow 3, a system developed in Israel and capable of intercepting missiles in outer space.
