MOSCOW. Jan 23 (Interfax) - The demand the United States voiced at the recent negotiations concerning the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) in Geneva that Russia scrap its 9M729 missiles is unacceptable, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.
"The U.S. delegation arrived for this event with one objective: to claim, based on talking points written in advance, that Russia rejected an ultimatum presented to it, demanding unilateral concessions on our part involving the verifiable destruction of all 9M729 missiles, their launchers, and auxiliary equipment," Ryabkov said at a briefing for military attaches and Russian and foreign journalists at Patriot Park on Wednesday.
"This approach has nothing in common with a good-faith attempt to find solutions acceptable to both parties and is absolutely unacceptable to us in its essence and contents, and Washington is perfectly aware of this," he said.
