Syria-Turkey agreement on Kurds remains in effect - Lavrov

RABAT. Jan 25 (Interfax) - Russia and Turkey are interested in restoring Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, while Moscow believes that the agreement between Damascus and Ankara on the Kurds remains in effect, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.

"We once again confirmed that and Turkish partners agreed with that unconditionally that all of us are interested in regaining Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The agreement, which you mentioned, is the 1998 Adana Agreement, which was concluded between Turkey and Syria. Its essence consists in efforts to remove Turkey's concern about its security, and the Syrian leadership decided to conclude this agreement, taking up certain commitments, and we believe that this agreement basically remains in effect and, as I understand, the signatory countries of this agreement are thinking in the same way," he said at a press conference in Morocco.
