Russian Defense Ministry calls for measures to prevent military incidents in Asia Pacific region

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax-AVN) - A delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry to the seventh meeting of the Fullerton Forum in Singapore has called for taking measures to prevent dangerous military activity in the Asia Pacific region, a ministry representative told Interfax on Tuesday.

The Russian delegation "substantiated the need for measures preventing incidents and dangerous military activity" at the forum, the representative said.

"The delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry presented its approach to building new security architecture in the region, which should be based on international law, equal and indivisible security, and respect for national interests of all countries, and assessed key threats and challenges to security of the Asia Pacific region," he said.

The delegation had a series of bilateral meetings with colleagues from Asia Pacific countries on the forum sidelines to confer on "aspects of current military interaction," the representative said.

The Fullerton Forum is an international venue for Asia security debates organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. It involves heads of defense ministries and leading experts of Asia Pacific nations and some European countries. It has been annually held in Singapore since 2013.
