Iraq not to deploy troops east of Euphrates in Syria - FM (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Iraq has no plans to deploy troops east of the Euphrates in Syria but will continue to destroy the remaining forces of ISIL (banned in Russia), Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim said.

"We are not planning to deploy our troops east of the Euphrates, but we will definitely continue to eliminate the remaining ISIL forces, both from the air and on the ground," al-Hakim said at a press conference after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He said that Iraq would not launch any operations without properly notifying Syrian partners.

"We are developing military cooperation with Syria in the field of security. We are conducting airborne and ground operations on a limited scale in coordination with the Syrian side," al-Hakim said.
