Luhansk says tension rising in Donbas

LUHANSK. Jan 30 (Interfax) - A militiaman has been killed in an attack by the Ukrainian army, Andrei Marochko, the spokesman for the militia of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), told the press on Wednesday.

"A serviceman of the LPR militia was killed by small arms fired by fighters of the 54th Brigade of the Ukrainian army," Marochko said.

Tensions are escalating on the Donbas contact line, he said.

"Tensions persist and continue to escalate in the zone of responsibility of the LPR militia. The enemy violated the ceasefire four times over the past 24 hours," Marochko said.

The army attacked near Kalynove, Molodizhne, Pervomaisk, and Sokilnyky using 122mm artillery, 82mm mortars, various types of grenade launchers, and small arm, he said.

The press center of the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation reported eight attacks by the militia on January 29. No Ukrainian servicemen were hurt, it said.
