War won't hamper completion of Ukraine's army reform, switch to NATO standards - Turchynov

KYIV. Feb 1 (Interfax) - Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has said that, regardless of the war, Ukraine is reforming its security and defense sector, bringing it in line with NATO standards.

Turchynov met with a group of foreign strategic defense reform advisors at the Reforms Committee of the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the NSDC press service said on Thursday.

"We don't wait for the end of the war in order to complete the reforms and switch to NATO standards," Turchynov said at the meeting.

The law on Ukraine's national security, which was recently passed by the Ukrainian parliament, has laid the foundation for building Ukraine's security and defense sector based on Europe's present-day model, he said.

"Our state's strategic objective is to become a full-fledged member of NATO and subsequently of the EU. We understand how much still needs to be done to achieve this goal, and we are ready for it," he said.
