MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned the United States against interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs, including by means of military intervention, in a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that took place on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"While discussing pressing foreign policy issues, Lavrov warned against interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs, including by means of military intervention which Washington has been threatening with in violation of international law. He also expressed the readiness to hold consultations on Venezuela on the basis of the UN Charter's principles," the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the phone call was initiated by the U.S. side.
