Fulfillment of Minsk Agreements is only chance for settlement in Ukraine - Russian ambassador to UN

WASHINGTON. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Kyiv's fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements is the only way to achieve a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said at a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to Ukraine.

"Kyiv should finally realize that the implementation of the Minsk Package of Measures is the only chance for peace and a settlement in Ukraine," Nebenzya said.

He added that Ukraine has not been fulfilling its obligations.

"Unfortunately, we can reaffirm that Kyiv has been dodging the fulfillment of and sabotaging the Minsk Agreements in a consistent and deliberate way, while our Western partners are covering up for its illegal actions," Nebenzya said.

The best example that "Ukraine equals the fulfillment of the Minsk Agreements to high treason" is the situation concerning Medvedchuk, who was indicted by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office on February 5 for his appeal for starting a direct dialogue between Kyiv and Donbas prescribed by the Minsk Package of Measures, Nebenzya said.

"The main impediment" to settling the crisis and normalizing life in Ukraine "is the lack of a clear response of Western countries to Kyiv's unwillingness to fulfill" the agreements, he said.
