Air defense crews practice deterring airstrike in Moscow area

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Air defense crews of the Western Military district's tank army have "downed" aircraft of a simulated enemy during drills in the Moscow region, the district press service said in a statement.

"Servicemen of the Tor-M2 air defense formation of the Western Military District's tank army have successfully detected and locked aircraft of a simulated enemy during two-party command-and-staff drills in the Moscow region," the press service said.

The crews were alerted and deployed their Tor-M2 systems to the designated area. Their assignment was complicated with a simulated hostile attack on a moving convoy.

The servicemen detected and locked over 50 airborne targets. They practiced fire control and performed computer-simulated launches of guided missiles at designated targets on distances of up to 15 kilometers. The crews complied with the standards.
