Black Sea Fleet's marine aviation to drill striking ships

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has redeployed six Sukhoi Su-24 bombers from Crimea to reserve airfields as part of a flight-tactical exercise of the Black Sea Fleet's marine aviation, the fleet's press service said on Tuesday.

The planes flew to other airfields in the Southern Military District to drill evacuating forces during an enemy strike, the press service said.

"During the exercise, six Su-24 planes carried out actual redeployment from main airfields to reserve ones located within Russia's Southern Military District," it said.

The exercise will last four days.

"The final stage of the exercise will be practicing delivering an airstrike on a unit of a simulated enemy's amphibious assault ships transitioning to landing areas," it said.

Personnel also practiced repelling a sabotage and reconnaissance unit's attack on an airfield facility.

Following the scenario, Pantsir-S air defense missile systems destroyed a simulated enemy's drone, and a sabotage and reconnaissance group was encircled and detained.

"More than 200 personnel and about ten units of military and special hardware have taken part in the exercise," it said.

The Black Sea Fleet is an operational-strategic element of the Russian Navy. Its headquarters are in Sevastopol. Interfax earlier reported the supply of three new frigates, six diesel-electric submarines, and several fast-attack missile-carrying ships to the fleet. All these vessels are armed with long-range Kalibr cruise missiles.
