SOCHI. Feb 14 (Interfax) - The heads of Russia, Iran, and Turkey believe that the withdrawal of American troops from Syria would be a positive step and that the liberated territories should be controlled by Damascus, President Vladimir Putin said.
"During our meeting, we also talked about how the plans announced by the United States of America to withdraw American troops from northeastern Syria will affect further developments in that country," Putin said after talks with the presidents of Turkey and Iran in Sochi on Thursday.
"In our joint opinion, the realization of such steps would be a positive move, would help stabilize this part of Syria, where the control of the legitimate government should eventually be restored," Putin said.
