Political obstacles to supply of humanitarian aid to Syria unacceptable - Putin

SOCHI. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Politics should not obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria, and sanctions in this area are unacceptable, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

"As for the humanitarian aspect, certainly, if we are interested in having refugees return to their homes, we should do all we can to make their living conditions worthy, humane," Putin said at a press conference in Sochi following the trilateral summit on Syria.

"And this is why the provision of humanitarian aid to Syrian people should not be restricted for political reasons, and, what's more, the decision of certain countries to impose sanctions on companies and individuals that provide this humanitarian aid, cooperate with the Syrian government in efforts to rebuild infrastructure, assist in healthcare, education, and other spheres, looks strange," Putin said.

"Everybody should unite around one thing: helping Syria restore its statehood," he said.
