Russian army to procure new T-90M tanks in 2019 - source

MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The delivery of new tanks T-90M to the Russian Armed Forces will begin this year, an informed source told Interfax.

"The delivery of tanks to the forces will begin this year, in accordance with the contract," the source said.

The tank is a product of the Proryv-9 R&D project. It is a profoundly modernized modification of the T-90 tank with higher combat and performance characteristics.

T-90M has a new battle module with a 125mm gun with enhanced survivability and precision. It is also armed with a 12.7mm remote-controlled machinegun, and has an automated digital fire control system that detects, identifies, locks and destroys targets.

T-90M Proryv was presented at the Army forum hosted by the Russian Defense Ministry's Patriot Park in the Moscow region in 2018.

Uralvagonzavod, an affiliate of Rostec, declined to comment on the planned delivery of T-90M tanks to the Russian Armed Forces, noting it cannot disclose information about government defense orders.
