Gunman killed in Dagestan identified - source

MAKHACHKALA. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Special services have identified a suspected terrorist killed in a counterterrorist operation in Dagestan on Tuesday, an informed source told Interfax.

"The neutralized gunman has been identified as Sakhib Abakarov, born in 1996. He was killed in an abandoned house, not far from his home, where his mother and brother were at that moment," the source said.

Security forces found aluminum powder, saltpeter, and other components for making an improvised explosive device at the scene of the operation, it said.

"Abakarov had recently been freed from a penitentiary, where he had served his time for committing terrorism-related crimes," the source said.

It had been reported earlier that security forces killed a gunman in a counterterrorist operation in the village of Belidzhi, the Derbent district of Dagestan.
