No casualties among security forces, civilians in counterterrorist operation in Dagestan - National Antiterrorism Committee (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 19 (Interfax) - Neither security forces nor civilians have suffered any casualties during a counterterrorist operation in Dagestan on Tuesday in which a gunman was killed, the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) told Interfax.

"There are no losses among law enforcement officials and no civilian casualties," it said.

The NAC had reported earlier that a gunman planning a terrorist attack was killed in a counterterrorist operation in the Derbent district of Dagestan.

It said weapons, ammunition, and an explosive belt had been discovered at the scene. The gunman's identity has been determined.

"The man, who was freed recently after serving time for illegal arms trafficking, was plotting a terrorist attack in Derbent with the use of a powerful improvised explosive device," the NAC said.

A source had told Interfax earlier that the gunman had been identified as Sakhib Abakarov, born in 1996.
