Russian, Cuban diplomats discuss regional situation, bilateral issues

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met with Cuban Ambassador to Russia Gerardo Penalver Portal in Moscow on Wednesday, according to a statement posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.

"They discussed topical aspects of the bilateral agenda, as well as regional and global affairs," the ministry said.

The meeting took place following the United States' allegations of deployment of Cuban troops and security forces to Venezuela. Cuba denied the allegations, admitting to the presence of about 20,000 Cuban citizens in Venezuela, but said that all those people, mostly medical professionals, were civilians.
