MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - The Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee has prepared a draft statement on the Venezuela situation, Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachyov said on Monday.
"It has been proposed that we respond to the situation with a statement via the Federation Council. Our draft is rough, considering the time limit," Kosachyov said at the Committee meeting and noted that the draft will be improved further.
It will be presented for the consideration of the Federation Council on Wednesday, Kosachyov said.
He described the situation in Venezuela as disquieting.
There was an attempt to break through Venezuela's border from Colombia last weekend, Kosachyov said.
"It's clear that the provocateurs are not going to stop. It has been reported that Mr. Pompeo [U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo] will announce an action plan for the Americans and their allies regarding Venezuela as early as today. They are not concealing that, after Venezuela, the Americans are going to suppress and alter regimes in a number of other Central and Latin American countries. Cuba and Nicaragua have been mentioned most frequently," he said.
