Cuban ambassador, Russian MP discuss Venezuela situation, preparations for Speaker Volodin's visit to Havana

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky and Cuban Ambassador to Russia Gerardo Penalver Portal discussed preparations for a visit of the State Duma's Speaker to Cuba in April 2019 at their meeting in Moscow on Wednesday, a statement posted on the committee website said.

"According to Mr. Ambassador, the visit will play an important role in boosting parliamentary cooperation between our countries and will underscore the strategic level of our relations," the statement said.

The sides also discussed Venezuela and expressed coinciding views on a peaceful settlement of the crisis, the statement said. They noted that interference in Venezuelan affairs was inadmissible "as it will carry irreversible consequences for global security."
