MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Moscow has called on India and Pakistan to demonstrate restraint and to step up efforts towards resolving bilateral problems by political and diplomatic means.
"We are seriously concerned about the aggravated situation on the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan and an outbreak of tensions in the relations between states which are friendly to us," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary posted on its website.
The ministry urged both sides "to show restraint and to accelerate efforts to resolve the existent problems by political and diplomatic means."
"We are ready to give further assistance to the strengthening of the counterterrorist potential of New Delhi and Islamabad," the ministry said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hopes for a de-escalation in tensions in Indian-Pakistani relations during his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in Wuzhen, China.
