Iskander-M missile system to drill in Astrakhan region

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Iskander-M mobile short-range ballistic missile systems will drill missile launching in the Astrakhan region, according to the press service of the Western Military District.

"Servicemen of the Western Military District's missile brigade stationed in the Leningrad region will practice launching Iskander-Ms during a tactical drill," the press service said.

As of now, the crews have been alerted and are relocating to the Kapustin Yar range in the Astrakhan region, which is over 2,000 kilometers away from their base, it said.

Once the crews arrive at the location, they will equip and camouflage their positions, deploy the systems, place the missiles into launchers, perform the launches, and move the systems to avoid a counterstrike by the simulated enemy.

About 300 servicemen and more than 50 items of weaponry and military and special hardware will take part in the launching drill.
