Threats to use force against Venezuela unacceptable - Russian draft resolution

NEW YORK (UN). Feb 28 (Interfax) - The crisis in Venezuela must be settled by the Venezuelans themselves, while attempts to externally intervene in this country's affairs as well as threats to use force against it are unacceptable, according to a Russian-proposed UN Security Council draft resolution on Venezuela, seen by Interfax.

The document expresses concern over threats to use force with the aim of disrupting the territorial integrity and political independence of Venezuela.

It also voices concern over attempts by other countries to interfere in matters, the resolution of which is the Venezuelan authorities' prerogative.

Furthermore, the document stresses the need for a political solution to Venezuela's problems.

As regards the transfer of humanitarian aid to Venezuela, the draft resolution says that such steps should be taken in coordination with Caracas.

A United Nations Headquarters source told Interfax earlier that the UN Security Council plans to vote on the Russian draft resolution on February 28, most likely after a vote on a rival U.S. draft resolution on Venezuela.
