Russia willing to help normalize India-Pakistan relations, but this depends primarily on conflicting parties - Peskov

MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - Russia is willing to facilitate the soonest possible normalization of relations between India and Pakistan, and Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed this possibility in a telephone call on Thursday, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Naturally, Russia is willing to facilitate the soonest possible normalization of the crisis as far as it can, but it depends primarily on the parties directly related to the conflict situation. Yesterday's conversation did indeed address this," Peskov told journalists on Friday, when asked by Interfax whether Russia is considering the provision of mediating efforts to settle the conflict between India and Pakistan and whether Putin and Modi had discussed this option.

At the same time, Peskov said Putin has so far not planned telephone talks with the Pakistani prime minister. "No contacts with the Pakistani counterpart have been planned as of yet," he said.
