Newly-built Knyaz Vladimir, Kazan nuclear subs to join Russian Navy in 2019 - Shoigu

SEVERODVINSK, Arkhangelsk region. March 12 (Interfax) - The Knyaz Vladimir and Kazan strategic submarines will join the Russian Navy before the end of 2019, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has said.

"The completion of the construction of the Knyaz Vladimir and Kazan nuclear submarines and their delivery to the Navy are primary tasks for the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Sevmash, and a series of designing organizations. In accordance with the commander-in-chief's orders, all operations must be completed this year," Shoigu said at a conference in Severodvinsk on Tuesday.

"These vessels will determine the future layout of our submarine fleet and will help upgrade Russia's defense capability and consolidate its stance in the world's oceans," he said.

"We will discuss the commissioning of these submarines, the maintenance of the Admiral Nakhimov heavy nuclear missile-carrying cruiser, and preparations for building open-sea ships today," Shoigu said.
