Moscow to seek lifting of sanctions on Damascus at Brussels conference - diplomat

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Russia will seek the lifting of the unilateral sanctions on Damascus at the international donor conference on Syria in Brussels, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva Gennady Gatilov said.

"It should be pointed out that no Syrian government representatives have been invited to it [the conference]. How can issues related to Syria's reconstruction be decided on without one of the main actors?" Gatilov said on the Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel.

"We will also bring up this factor at the conference and will insist on lifting the unilateral sanctions on Syria, which are also impeding the reconstruction process," he said.
