Russia's Southern Military District gets some 100 units of advanced hardware in 2019

ROSTOV-ON-DON. March 12 (Interfax-AVN ) - Forces of Russia's Southern Military District have received state-of-the-art military hardware, including tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and armored personnel carriers, since the beginning of the year, the military district's spokesperson told Interfax in a statement.

"Around 100 units of advanced hardware have been delivered to the Southern Military Districts over the past two and a half months. Deliveries to combined-arms tank and motorized rifle divisions of T-72B3 tanks, BMP-3M infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers are ongoing as part of the rearmament program," the statement said.

Also in the past week, the military district has received around 40 units of state-of-the-art military hardware, including some 20 Tornado-S multiple-launch rocket systems and some 20 units of automotive equipment and advanced liaison vehicles, it said.

"In total, more than 1,000 advanced and upgraded weapons and units of military hardware equipped with state-of-the-art communications equipment and automated control systems are expected to be delivered to the South Military District in 2019," the statement said.

The South Military District's share of advanced weapons and military hardware in the district's ground, naval and air forces is expected to reach 70%, and even 100% for certain units, before the end of 2019.
