OSCE SMM observes gunfire, explosions violating spring truce in Donbas

LUHANSK. March 14 (Interfax) - The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) observed ceasefire violations on the Donbas contact line near the town of Zolote on Monday and Tuesday, a representative of the mission told Interfax in a statement.

"An SMM camera in Zolote (a government-held town, 60 kilometers west of Luhansk) recorded the firing of 19 shells about 2-4 kilometers east and southeast (presumably, within the disengagement area) in the period from the evening of March 11 till the evening of March 12," the statement said.

The same camera recorded an explosion of unknown origin about 5-6 kilometers south, six shells fired about 1-4 kilometers east and east-southeast (presumably, outside the disengagement area), and four shells fired about 1-2 kilometers southeast and south-southeast (it was unclear whether they were fired within or outside the disengagement area), it said.

"Observers on a monitoring mission to Pervomaisk [a town held by the self-proclaimed republic, 58 kilometers west of Luhansk] heard an explosion of unknown origin about 2-3 kilometers north (presumably, within the Zolote disengagement area] on March 12," the statement said.

The conflicting sides had agreed to declare a spring truce on March 8.
