U.S. reluctance to extend New START Treaty may ruin any restrictions in nuclear missile field - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - The United States' negative attitude toward the extension of the New START Treaty is paving the way toward the absolute removal of any monitoring and restrictive mechanisms in the nuclear missile field in relations between Russia and the U.S., the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, the U.S. so far prefers to create an atmosphere of uncertainty, including negative signals, around the New START Treaty. Hence, the full disappearance of any monitoring and restrictive mechanisms in the nuclear missile field in relations between the two largest nuclear powers in the world is looming large. This cannot but alarm us," it said.
