Russian warships practice disabling enemy navigation systems in Caspian Sea

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - The crews of Caspian flotilla ships held an exercise in repelling mock enemy airstrikes, using electronic countermeasures and air defense systems, the Southern Military District stated on Tuesday.

"Electronic warfare units practiced disabling the navigation systems of mock enemy aircraft approaching a group of ships at sea," the statement said.

"Air defense crews prevented the aircraft from flying up to the firing line, conducted electronic launches of shipborne air defense missiles at the targets within a substantial distance from the location of the Caspian flotilla forces."

Electronic countermeasures were also used to practice disabling the radio-electronic equipment of a surface ship conducting naval reconnaissance.

The exercise involved the crews of the missile ship Dagestan, the small missile ship Veliky Ustyug, the missile boat Stupinets, and the Sukhoi Su-24SM aircraft.
