DAMASCUS. March 19 (Interfax) - The West is obstructing the ultimate stabilization of the situation in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday.
"Syria supported by Russia definitely managed to achieve significant successes in the fight against international terrorism and end the latter's arbitrariness and spreading. The most important thing is that we managed to preserve the Syrian state and created conditions for the return of people to the peaceful life," Shoigu said.
"However, the Syrian government's successes in restoring the peaceful life suit far from everyone. Western countries are trying to minimize any positive transformations in Syria and are putting up new obstacles on the path towards the end of the crisis," Shoigu is quoted by the Russian Defense Ministry as saying.
