LPR authorities hand over 60 prisoners who want to serve terms in Ukraine

LUHANSK. March 20 (Interfax) - Officials of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) have handed over 60 prisoners to Ukraine for them to continue serving their terms in penitentiaries on Ukrainian-controlled territory.

"Another agreement between Ukraine and the LPR is being implemented today. Persons convicted before 2014 have been handed over. This is a good will gesture on the part of the LPR, the convicts said they wanted to continue serving their terms on the territory of Ukraine," Olga Kobtseva, LPR official in the humanitarian subgroup of the contact group on the settlement of the conflict in Donbas, said.

The individuals were handed over in the area of the city of Schastya, controlled by Ukraine, in the presence of officials from the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC).

In December 2018, the LPR handed over 42 prisoners who said they wanted to serve their terms on Ukrainian territory. Another 33 people were handed over on February 7.
