Russian fighters escort U.S. strategic bombers over Baltic Sea twice in past 24 hrs - military

MOSCOW. March 25 (Interfax) - Russian fighters were scrambled for an "interception" twice in the past 24 hours due to U.S. strategic bombers' flights over the Baltic Sea, the Russian National Defense Management Center said on Saturday.

"The Russian Sukhoi Su-27 fighters among the air defense forces on duty escorted the U.S. Air Force's B-52H strategic bombers that conducted the flights in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea twice in the past 24 hours," the Russian military said.

"During the flights, the crew of the Su-27 fighters prevented the foreign strategic bombers from approaching the state border," National Defense Management Center said.
