Russia, Kyrgyzstan to continue working together to remediate uranium tailings

MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - Russia and Kyrgyzstan will continue working together under the program for remediating uranium tailings, according to a joint statement issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov following talks.

The Kyrgyz side is very pleased with the work done by Rosatom under the Intergovernmental Target Program "Remediation of the Territories of the CIS Member Countries Affected by Uranium Production," according to the statement.

"The sides will continue to work together in this area both in the bilateral format and in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and other international organizations. Special attention will be devoted to former uranium production sites located near the populated locality of Min-Kush," it reads.
