NAZRAN. March 29 (Interfax) - The Nazran mayor's office has confirmed reports of a shooting incident near the city administration building.
"Unidentified attackers have fired non-lethal weapons near the city mayor's office on Thursday. Three individuals were injured. Detainment of the assailants shortly afterwards was not accomplished. Law enforcement agencies were informed of the [license] number of a car which the criminals drove," the press service of the mayor's office told Interfax.
Mayoral officials called the hotline of the republican branch of the Interior Ministry at 10 p.m. and reported the shooting incident.
The Nazran city police department is probing the incident.
Several men broke into the Nazran mayor's office and injured three persons using non-lethal pistols on Thursday evening, an informed source said earlier.
Mayor Alikhan Tumgoyev's son, his security guard, and a passer-by were injured in the incident, according to tentative information. They suffered minor injuries.
The attackers managed to escape from the scene of the incident before the police arrived.
