KYIV. April 4 (Interfax) - Presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky, who will be competing with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in the runoff election, has described a plan to implement "genuine people's power" in Ukraine as his first order of business should he win.
He also said that the Donbas conflict can be resolved by means of diplomacy, economic growth, and the strengthening of the Ukrainian army.
Zelensky answered 25 questions asked to all contestants in the 2019 presidential race within the framework of the President UA project of the online media outlet Radio Svoboda.
In response to the question "What will your first executive order be as Ukrainian president if you win the election?", Zelensky said, "It will be an order endorsing a plan to implement genuine people's power in Ukraine. I will also submit the bills 'On Abolishing Immunity of the Ukrainian President, People's Deputies, and Justices', 'On Impeaching the Ukrainian President' and 'On Recalling Ukrainian People's Deputies'."
As for which three countries are the main strategic partners of Ukraine, Zelensky said "It all depends on context. Strategic partners in what matters and in what areas? Life is changeable, and we should be cooperating with any states that do not threaten our independence and sovereignty on terms that are advantageous for Ukraine."
Zelensky described Crimea as "[part of] Ukraine." "Our territory was seized" in eastern Ukraine in spring 2014, "but this is only temporary," he said.
In the opinion of Zelensky, the Donbas war cannot be stopped, "you either lose or win a war." "We can win by means of diplomacy, economic growth, and real strengthening of the army," he said.
