MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Russian and U.S. diplomats confirmed their commitment to dialogue to promoting the settlement of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and achieve the denuclearization of North Korea in consultations in Moscow, the U.S. embassy to Russia said on Thursday.
"U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun held a constructive meeting today with Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov. During the meeting, Special Representative Biegun and Deputy Foreign Minister Morgulov discussed respective bilateral engagements with North Korea, as well as efforts to achieve the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea," the U.S. embassy said in a statement obtained by Interfax.
The diplomats "addressed a number of areas of mutual understanding between the United States and Russia with respect to North Korea and committed to continuing dialogue in order to bridge any gaps on the road ahead," the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, said that the meeting participants had "confirmed mutual commitment to continue active efforts on this track in interaction with all parties involved, in the interests of a prompt political and diplomatic solution of the problems of the subregion."
